⚠ Why Every 2007–2013 Build Is Heads-Off

Gen IV LS engines have a more aggressive Active Fuel Management (AFM/DOD) system than earlier Gen III motors. Lifter failure rates are significantly higher, and doing a cam swap without addressing AFM is a guaranteed comeback. Every 07–13 build we do is a full heads-off job — LS7 lifters go in, the DOD system gets deleted completely, and the cam goes in correctly. No shortcuts, no exceptions.


Level 1 — Full Top End Build

The heads come off. All 16 lifters get replaced with LS7 units. The DOD/AFM system is fully deleted with TSP block-off plugs and tray guides. A new timing chain and tensioner go in. A 3-bolt cam gear conversion gets rid of the VVT setup for fixed timing reliability. Then your NSR cam goes in — and we write a custom tune for it. This is the right foundation for any Gen IV LS.

Why NSR at Level 1: The NSR cam is specifically ground to work safely with your factory valve springs — no head machine work, no spring swap needed. You get the sound, the idle, and the power improvement without the extra cost. The DOD delete and LS7 lifter swap happen regardless of which cam you pick.

Level 2 — Full Performance Valvetrain

Everything in Level 1 — plus the step up to a non-NSR cam. More aggressive lift and duration than the NSR versions, matched with the spring kit and chromoly pushrods the cam needs to run correctly. The valvetrain is built to support the cam for the long haul. Headers not included here — if you want them, see Level 3.

Why Level 2 over Level 1: The non-NSR cam gives you more lift, more duration, and more top-end pull. Factory springs can't safely handle that stress long-term — so we do the spring upgrade, chromoly pushrods, and valve seals all at the same time while the heads are already off. It's the correct way to run a bigger cam on a Gen IV.

Headers go on while the engine is already open, which saves significant labor versus doing it separately later. One build, done right, written into one custom tune.

Why do headers now instead of later: When the engine is already apart for the cam and lifter job, header install is far less labor. Coming back later to add headers on an assembled engine is a bigger job — costs more and means pulling things apart again. Do it once here and save.
