The 2014–2018 5.3L (L83) and 6.2L (L86) are Gen V LT-family engines. They share the same AFM/DOD failure problem as the 07–13 Gen IV, but the internals, lifters, valley cover, cam retention, and oiling system are completely different. This is not an LS cam swap. If someone is quoting you a Gen V build using LS7 lifters or Gen III/IV parts, that's wrong.
- Different lifters — Gen V requires non-DOD LT lifters (12698946), not LS7-style
- Valley cover must come out — the VLOM (Variable Lift Oil Manifold) is deleted and replaced with a non-DOD valley cover (12645725)
- VVT phaser is locked — the cam phaser is locked out as part of the build and tuned accordingly
- Direct injection — Gen V uses DI fuel delivery; the tune is written specifically for the DI platform
- AC condenser must come out — Gen V cam access requires removing the AC condenser; R-1234YF recharge is included in every build

Level 1 cam selection: The cam used in Level 1 is specifically chosen to work safely with your factory Gen V valve springs — no spring upgrade required at this level. You get the sound, the idle, and the performance improvement without the added cost of a full valvetrain package. The DOD delete and all associated Gen V work happens regardless of which cam you pick.
- Valve spring upgrade — Level 1 cam is selected to run safely on factory springs
- Chromoly pushrods — factory pushrods retained, not required for Level 1 cam spec
- Valve stem seal replacement — heads reinstalled with factory seals if in good condition

Everything in Level 1 — plus a step up to a more aggressive cam that needs a proper spring upgrade to run correctly long-term. PAC-1219 beehive valve springs, TSP chromoly pushrods, and new valve stem seals all go in while the heads are already off. The Gen V valvetrain is built to support the cam. Headers not included at this level — see Level 3.
Why Level 2 over Level 1: The performance cam in Level 2 has more lift and duration — it pulls harder at the top end and has a more aggressive character. Factory Gen V springs aren't rated for that lift long-term, so we do the spring upgrade, chromoly pushrods, and valve seals all at the same time while the heads are already off. It's the right way to run a bigger cam on the Gen V platform.

The complete Gen V package. Everything in Level 2 — plus Speed Engineering Gen V long tube headers and a catless Y-pipe, all installed together and tuned as one complete system. Headers go on while the engine is already apart, saving significant labor versus adding them later as a separate job. One build, done right, one custom tune for the whole package.
Why do headers now instead of later: With the engine already apart for the cam and lifter job, header install adds far less labor than coming back later on an assembled engine. Do it once here, get the full combo tune, and you're done. It's the most cost-effective way to end up with the complete build.
