DOD Delete Wilmington NC | GM 5.3L & 6.2L Specialists | Cape Fear Cams
DOD Delete Wilmington NC — GM Truck & SUV Specialists
Cape Fear Cams is Wilmington NC's go-to shop for DOD delete (Displacement on Demand) on GM 5.3L and 6.2L trucks and SUVs. We eliminate the factory cylinder deactivation system that causes premature lifter failure, oil consumption, and rough idle — and we back every job with a custom HP Tuners calibration so your truck runs perfectly without DOD.
What Is a DOD Delete?
GM's Displacement on Demand system (also called AFM — Active Fuel Management) shuts down 4 of your 8 cylinders at highway speeds to improve fuel economy. In practice, it causes oil fouling, collapsed lifters, camshaft damage, and rough drivability. A DOD delete removes or disables those DOD/AFM components and tunes the ECM to run all 8 cylinders all the time — restoring reliability and often improving real-world power and fuel economy.
What We Replace
- DOD lifters → standard non-DOD lifters
- DOD camshaft → performance or OEM non-DOD cam
- VLOM (Valley Oil Manifold) deleted and plugged
- DOD solenoids removed
- Custom HP Tuners tune — AFM/DOD fully disabled in ECM

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a DOD delete cost in Wilmington NC?
Pricing depends on parts selection and whether you're doing a cam swap at the same time. Call or text us at (910) 231-5505 for a quote specific to your truck. We offer all-in-one DOD delete kits that include parts and tune.
Will a DOD delete void my warranty?
If your truck is still under factory warranty, an aftermarket tune can affect warranty coverage for drivetrain components. We can discuss your options — many customers with 100k+ miles have no warranty concern at all.
Do I need a DOD delete or just a tune to disable AFM?
If your lifters are still healthy, you can start with just a tune to disable AFM. But if you're already hearing a tick or have high mileage, we recommend replacing the DOD lifters and cam at the same time since the engine is already apart.
How long does a DOD delete take?
A full DOD delete with cam swap typically takes 1–2 days. Tune-only jobs are much faster. We'll give you a realistic timeline when you book.
